An idea which mushroomed into a dream, and later became a reality in March 2012, is one way of describing the Easter Vacation Bible School (VBS), which commemorated its 7th year of impact in April 2018. Bible Buildings was the theme that caught the attention of the 32 kids who trekked through the gates of Grace Assembly Hall over the 4 days from 3 – 6 April. We again welcomed Craig and Carole Jones, and were also delighted to have Jody and Scotia Matheson on board for the first time. Soulful spiritual lessons, practical applications, exciting craft, jog-your-memory Bible verses, sumptuous snacks and energizing games were all in a day at VBS.
On the first day, the kids were challenged to build a tower from paper blocks as part of the story about the tower of Babel. John 14:6 reminded the young minds that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, and that there is only one way to heaven. Mark 1:17 was a memory verse that got them busy as they hustled and bustled to organize themselves in the right order for the verse: “Come follow me, said Jesus”.
Craft time was always special for both the kids and the volunteers. It was fun, as well as a means of reinforcing the Scripture lesson and teaching life lessons, like: listening, obedience, perseverance and, of course, validating the artistic worth of those who enthusiastically tackled the likes of origami bookmarks, glass painting and owl pencil toppers made from clay!
We are excited about this very important outreach ministry of the Church which saw another successful staging as kids heard, witnessed and experienced the love of the Lord. ‘Nuff’ love and appreciation to all the persons who volunteered and contributed to VBS 2018. See you again next year, DV!
